The Chao Phraya barrage dam in Chai Nat's Sapphaya district is releasing less water as the volume of runoff from the North eases off. (Photo: Chudet Sihawong)Communities along the lower Chao Phraya River will see water levels receding over the next 24 hours as the volume of runoff from the North falls, but the flood situation in Nakhon Phanom in the Northeast remains severe. Officials said on Wednesday they are reducing the rate of discharge from the Chao Phraya barrage dam in Chai Nat to 800 cubic metres a second. This would result in "lower water levels by between 5 and 10 centimetres" over the next 24 hours, spokesmen said. This was evidenced by the falling level of the Chao Phraya from Chai Nat's Sapphaya district downstream to Sing Buri, Ang Thong and Ayutthaya.
